Preventing AIDS by Educating Youth in Cameroon:

Caring Understanding Partners attempt to promote healthy lifestyles
through actively engaging Cameroonian Youth

In less than three years, the rate of HIV infection rates skyrocketed from 5% to 11.8% of in the West African nation of Cameroon. For a country with a population of about 16 million, this means that approximately 1.9 million people in this one country alone are infected with the deadly virus. Even more startling is that the highest rates of infection lie among the youth in Cameroon. In a study performed by the German technical assistance agency (GTZ), 2/3 of teens in Cameroon are sexually active by the age of 16, and more than half rebuff the use of condoms - despite the alarming prevalence of AIDS.

How do you fight it? What do you do? How do you reach this part of the population?

Caring and Understanding Partners is a regional non profit organization which realizes the path towards seeing an end to the spread of AIDS begins with empowering and educating the youth. This website profiles its campaign to interact with Cameroon's youth on the topic of AIDS prevention.
