Profile of the Chiapas Media Project:
The Chiapas Media Project (CMP) began in 1997 in an effort to give the indigenous communities the power to share their perspectives and struggles with the rest of Mexico and the world. The Chiapan region has a long history of poverty, human rights abuses, poor education/healthcare systems, and problems with land ownership. Though other regions in Mexico suffer from some of these same problems, none are as severe as they are in Chiapas. Therefore, CMP works with the indigenous people to provide computer and video equipment and training so that the indigenous communities can share their stories with the rest of the world.
