Thailand, a country of primarily peaceful Buddhists, has begun to experience the horrors of terrorism long its southern boarders.

For years, there has been tension between the Southern Muslims and the Buddhist’s Thai’s. However, in January 2004, the resurgent Muslim separatist movements viciously turned to terrorism as a way of attracting attention and getting their voices heard. As a result, over 500 Thai’s have lost their lives. Everyday since then, has been a traumatic experience for southern Buddhists and a struggle for both the people and government to overcome.

This is why, the Prime Minister asked everyone in Thailand to fold an origami paper dove by December 5, 2004. Starting at 9:00 am, the Prime Minister hoped to “bomb” the southern provinces experiencing civil unrest with over 65 million doves in an attempt to show the Southern Muslims that Thailand wanted to come to a peaceful agreement. As a result, over 100 million doves were dropped, yet the conflict has continued.
